The Training and Development Program is an initiative that is supported by the University Libraries' Dean and administrative staff. The Training Office is organizationally part of the Research and Instructional Services Department but supports training for all library faculty and staff. The purpose of the program is to provide the employees of the University Libraries with opportunities to acquire new skills for currently held positions as well as for professional development.
This initiative also supports the University Libraries in their mission of being prepared to respond to the constantly changing information needs of a diverse clientele.
The Research and Instructional Services Department is dedicated to providing support for Virginia Tech faculty, students, and staff to enhance the teaching and learning, research and discovery, and outreach and engagement, missions of the University through excellence in instruction, reference assistance and information access.
Through annual needs assessments, the training program is designed to help support the University Libraries' Strategic Plan.
Target Training Population
University Libraries faculty and staff are encouraged to attend courses. Students employed by University Libraries will receive training from their unit supervisors.
The Training Office will seek to invite the campus community to appropriate training events, such as webcasts. As part of our outreach efforts, the Training Office will work to establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with area colleges and universities.
